10. VPN Settings

The VPN (Virtual Private Network ) is a generic name for technologies that enable one or more network connections (a logical network) to be established over another network (such as the Internet). In UserGate, you can create the following types of VPN connections:

  • Remote access VPN. Here, UserGate works as a VPN server and the users of other devices as VPN clients. The standard VPN clients for most of the popular operating systems like Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, iOS, Android and others are supported.

  • Site-to-Site VPN connections. In this case, one UserGate server works as a VPN server and another as a VPN client. The client initiates a connection to the server. This kind of server-to-server connection allows you to consolidate disparate corporate offices into a single logical network.

Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) is used for creating tunnels and the IPSec protocol for protecting the data during transmission. UserGate supports multi-factor authentication for user connections to the VPN service.
